Hi Happy Saturday!
I have a question for you: Do you own an Air Fryer? If you don’t, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me why. You could do so by leaving a comment or replying to this e-mail.
Now, if you do, this recipe is definitely one you will want to save and keep making repeatedly.
Since I first tried Edamame it has been one of my favorite appetizers to serve or have with Asian-style meals. I guess I love how fresh it is, the crunch, and obviously, the sea salt added on top to enhance the flavor of these young soybeans. My only problem was the price! Sometimes, we ended up paying 8 USD for a portion of steamed edamame. To me, it seems like a lot for steamed soybeans with a little sea salt on top right?
We soon started cooking edamame (steaming method) and enjoying this as an appetizer or snack at home rather than in restaurants. Buuuuut, we’ve got an air fryer, and if you own one you are in one of these two groups: the group that hasn’t used it much, and it’s become just another piece of furniture in the kitchen or the group that is completely obsessed with it and tries to use it for every single recipe (hi, this is me).
So I had to try cooking edamame with my air fryer and I just LOVED IT. It only takes 10 minutes and you can cook them directly from frozen, without adding any oil. As well, what I really love is that you can add your favorite seasonings before cooking them, or halfway through, which makes it way easier for the beans to absorb the flavors.
Here is the recipe, just in case you happen to own an air fryer, and want to make yourself a yummy snack or appetizer this weekend 💚
Ingredients
500 g frozen edamame unshelled
1 ½ tablespoon tamari(for gluten-free option) or soy sauce
A pinch of sea salt
Optional: sesame seeds for garnishing
Add your frozen edamame to the air fryer basket and set the air fryer to 200 C (400F) for 10 minutes.
When the edamame has been cooking for five minutes, open the air fryer, shake the basket so the edamame beans cook evenly, add some tamari or soy sauce, and keep cooking. (I didn’t manage to take a process shot as I was so excited that I literally forgot that I was making this recipe for the blog 😂)
After 10 minutes, take the edamame out, and serve with some sea salt, sesame seeds, and your favorite seasoning ingredients. Our favorites are sesame oil, chili sesame oil, or Shichimi Togarashi.
Other things I love about this recipe:
You don’t need oil to cook them. If you are using frozen edamame the steam will be enough to cook them to perfection.
You don’t need to preheat your air fryer (who has time for that)
You can add the beans directly from frozen.
My whole family loves this healthy snack which is high in protein and fiber.
If you still don’t have an air fryer and are wondering whether to get one or not, we totally recommend you get one. We took quite a long time to decide and the only thing we regret is not to get it earlier! Let us know if you need some advice deciding which one to get and we can definitely try to help you.
Don’t forget that we are sending our Meal Plan number 2 early next week and if you want to get it in your inbox, you can upgrade to a paid subscription.
Talk soon,
Laura.
